SCHOOL BOARD MEETS MONDAY
Santa Fe Public Schools, which usually holds its regular meetings on Tuesdays, instead is conducting this week’s meeting on Monday. The meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m. in the district’s Educational Services Center at 610 Alta Vista St., includes a session for public comment. Among the items on the agenda are a presentation on school safety and security, a proposal to find a way to provide affordable housing for teachers and a discussion of whether to rebrand the district’s Early College Opportunities high school. CHARTER SCHOOL SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR ONE SEAT ON ITS GOVERNING BOARD
The Academy for Technology and the Classics, a Santa Fe district-chartered facility serving about almost 400 students in grades 7-12, is seeking nominations for one seat on its governing council board. The position is open to a parent or guardian of a student enrolled at the school. A financial background check is required. Nominations should be submitted to the administration office at the school by Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. Nomination forms and information are available on the school’s website at www.atcschool.org. You can also pick up a nomination form in the main office of the school.
EARLY LEARNING CENTER AT KAUNE PLANS TOUR AND GRAND OPENING
The new Early Learning Center at Kaune, a United Way of Santa Fe County initiative to provide pre-K programming to children, hosts its grand opening on Sept. 25 on its campus at 1409 Monterey Dr. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting breakfast and announcements. Later that day — from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. — the center will host a family and community celebration for the public to attend. LUNA COMMUNITY COLLEGE HOSTS PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE FORUM
Community members are invited to meet Luna Community College’s five presidential candidates. The college, located in Las Vegas, N.M., is hosting five separate public forums to profile those finalists. All are scheduled to take place from 1 to 2 p.m. on the following dates: Thursday: Jeremy Moreland, provost and chief academic officer at the University of the Rockies in Denver. Sept. 25: LeRodrick Terry, vice-president of student affairs at Rio Salado College in Tempe, Ariz. Sept. 27: Bruce Moses, assistant vice-chancellor for accreditation and academic quality improvement at Pima Community College in Tucson. Oct. 2: Diana Pino, president and CEO of Capstone HigherEd Services in Houston. Oct. 4: Anthony Hancock, dean of the Center of Excellence at Houston Community College. The college’s board of trustees announced the five finalists during a meeting last week. Ricky Serna has been serving as the college’s interim president since July 2017.
