Man breaks into library, views pornography

-

When Santa Fe police officers responded to an alarm at La Farge Branch Library around 9 p.m. Tuesday, they say, they found a broken window and a man sitting at the shuttered library’s computer station, looking at pornography.

Jody Beal, 40, told police he had broken into the library to get out of the rain, according to a charging document filed Wednesday in the Santa Fe County Magistrate Court. On the document, Beal’s address is listed as one of the homeless shelters.

A statement of probable cause by police accuses Beal of breaking into the locked library through a window, causing an estimated $150 in damages. And when police found him inside at the computer station, the statement says, they saw pornographic images on the screen.

Beal was jailed on charges of breaking and entering, concealing his identity and criminal damage to property. He was scheduled for his first appearance in Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

According to court records, Beal has been charged with trespassing and breaking and entering multiple times in Santa Fe and in Bernalillo County.

Just this month, court documents show, state District Judge T. Glenn Ellington ordered Beal to a minimum of 90 days of inpatient alcohol and drug treatment in Rio Rancho, after ruling that Beal had violated the terms of his probation on a felony trespassing charge from last year.
