Nov. 6, 1968: California, Illinois, Ohio Hand Dick Nixon Victory Governor David F. Cargo Re-Elected ALBUQUERQU­E — (AP) Gov. David Cargo won re-election Tuesday in the wake of a Republican sweep of top offices in New Mexico.

Cargo’s narrow victory over Democratic challenger Fabian Chavez came as New Mexico’s two Democratic congressme­n, Thomas G. Morris and E.S. Johnny Walker, were turned out of office by Republican Manuel Lujan and Ed Foreman.

Nov. 6, 1993: Actress Greer Garson probably was thinking more about the art of film and education than about economics when she donated $3 million to build Garson Communicat­ions Center and Studios at The College of Santa Fe.

Neverthele­ss, the film studios completed in 1990 with funding from the star of Mrs. Miniver and Goodbye, Mr. Chips already have helped generate close to $48 million in business, mostly in the Santa Fe area.

And that doesn’t include money generated by Wyatt Earp, the Western film starring Kevin Costner, Dennis Quaid and Gene Hackman that has been in production at the studios since June, said Joe Dispenza, director of Garson Studios.
