TV TOP PICKS
7 p.m. on CBS Campaign 2018
John Dickerson, Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell are among the CBS correspondents anchoring their network’s coverage of the 2018 midterm elections, which are widely being seen as a referendum on the performance of someone who isn’t even on the ballot: President Donald Trump. Viewers also will find election coverage on NBC, ABC and PBS, as well as the major cable news outlets.
7 p.m. on FOOD Chopped
Four repeat champions return for their shot at a $50,000 payday in the “Chopped Champs Throwdown: Finale.” The chefs get quite a challenge right off the bat with an appetizer basket containing a seafood delicacy that requires quite a bit of thought, but the second basket is downright shocking and forces the chefs to go bold. The two finalists are confronted with a dessert round that is definitely not for sissies. Scott Conant, Amanda Freitag and Marc Murphy are the judges.
8 p.m. on USA The Purge
It’s probably not a coincidence that this horror thriller, set in a totalitarian near-future America where crimes including murder are permissible one night each year, is airing its season finale, “A Nation Reborn,” on the same night that the 2018 midterm election results are being reported. In the world of this show, Penelope (Jessica Garza, pictured), who started the season resigned to death, shakes off her passivity and takes charge.
8:30 p.m. on TBS The Guest Book
in the new episode “Killer Party,” Bodhi (Jimmy Tatro) goes looking for Eddie (Eddie Steeples), who seems to have vanished. Meanwhile, a former guest returns to Bare Feet Retreat with fond memories of his last visit, which included a real rager of a party that was crashed by his Uncle Bill from West Virginia. Michael Cassidy, Paul Dooley and Darrell BrittGibson guest star.
11 p.m. on FX Mayans M.C.
An episode called “Cuervo/ Tz’ikb’uul” wraps up Season 1 of this Sons of Anarchy spinoff that finds the members of the principal motorcycle club relieved and happy that they have reason to celebrate. Several big changes in the wind leave their future in doubt, however. Fortunately, fans of this show, which has gotten mixed to favorable reviews, are not in any such quandary: FX has picked up this drama for a second season.
