Ambercare: A flower that blooms all year
For more than a year, the personnel of Ambercare Hospice became a wonderful part of our lives. Like a flower that blooms all year, these truly special people filled our house with brightness and warm fellowship. Paid for entirely through Medicare, their professional service allowed my wife to stay at home with me and with all of the artifacts of our life together for the entire duration. No sterile room or institutional accessories. No picking up and paying for medications nor ordering wheelchairs, hospital beds and commodes myself. The hospice doctor comes to your door. Ambercare brings an amazing collection of people, dedicated individuals devoted to creating the best atmosphere for our uncertain days.
Having these hospice professionals made it possible for my wife, as well as my girls and me, to spend her last days together as an extended family in peace, and with the confidence to believe that these were good days, not sad; a positive, nurturing time; not a wasted end, but a final bloom. Keeping kids safe
Two of my kids were on the Santa Fe Public School bus route No. 14 that was rear-ended one morning recently.
I was very impressed with the adults who were in a position to help the kids involved in the accident.
The bus driver kept the kids calm, contacted the transportation office and police, set out traffic cones, got a list of all kids on the bus and asked if anyone was hurt.
The Santa Fe Fire Department checked out the condition of all the kids on board and contacted parents of injured kids.
Once the kids arrived at Milagro Middle School, they were sent to the nurse’s office to be checked out again. As a parent, I want to say “thank you” to the bus driver, school transportation, Milagro Middle School, the Santa Fe Fire Department and Santa Fe Police Department. Following the law
For the last two terrible years, Donald Trump and the GOP have proven there is no low to which they will not stoop, interfering in elections, aligning themselves with tyrants; leveling multiple daily lies, threats against the press, protesters, Democrats and anyone who has not gulped the Kool-Aid. They have insulted our allies, disrespected the sacrifices of our fallen soldiers and first responders, and done everything to rip this country apart. Just hours after the midterm election, Trump fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions and ignoring the Department of Justice succession plan, appointed the interim replacement, Matthew Whitaker, to be his hatchet man on the Russia investigation.
We must immediately demand that the rule of law be followed and the new attorney general be independent of the executive branch. Deborah Dennard

Last best hope
In poor Donald Trump’s blissful ignorance of actual facts, he claims he won the Senate. Actually, only one-third of the Senate was in play, and Republicans merely held their Senate and added a seat or two.
My electoral map indicates that when California votes to secede from our confederacy of racism and political evangelicalism, which have reversed any Civil War gains, it will have many states following like the entire Pacific Coast, part of the Southwest, and the states that actually fought and won the Civil War.
“Calexit” is the last, best hope for another secular democracy in North America. Texas will probably again declare its independence as it has a history of doing twice (1836 and 1861) over slavery.
The remaining taker states of the Trump union will necessarily declare bankruptcy after living on the dole these many years. Gerald M. Rosen, M.D.
