ROBERT (BOB) SANDERS

Robert (Bob) Sanders, age 89, died on February 5, 2019, at the Veterans Hospital in Prescott, Arizona. He was born June 29,1929, in Pacoima, California. He is survived by his wife, Zona Kay Sanders; a brother, Richard Sanders; three sons: Fred Sanders, Bart Sanders and his wife, Bernadette, Charles Crocker and his wife, Judith; 10 grandchild­ren: Aria Sanders, Sara Sanders Cordova, Michol Burch, Joshua Sanders, Omteme Sanders, Lidol Won Sanders, Courtney Montgomery, Alyssa Andersen, Joshua Crocker, Rebecca Crocker; and 14 great grandchild­ren. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 at age 17 and was stationed in Japan. He worked in General Douglas MacArthur’s motor pool, which included being a member of MacArthur ’s Honor Guard. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1950, he continued working in the automotive industry for more than 40 years. His most cherished hobby was fishing in any body of water he could find. Bob was raised in the Baptist religion but later in life converted to Catholicis­m while living in Liebenthal, Kansas. He also became the mayor of that city. He was preceded in death by his parents, Steven Meison Sanders and Chonita Prendez Compos; former wife, Eleanor Wassel Sanders; siblings, Rudolph Sanders, Isabel Ortega, Raymond Sanders; and son, Robert Michael Sanders. On Thursday, February 14, viewing is at 11:00 a.m. and a rosary is at 11:30 a.m. at the Riverside Funeral Home, 3232 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe, NM. This will be followed by a burial service at the Santa Fe Veterans National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
