Nine S.F. groups receive arts grants

The National Endowment for the Arts is awarding grants to nine Santa Fe organizati­ons to support arts programs, including $80,000 to the Santa Fe Opera, New Mexico’s U.S. senators announced Wednesday.

The opera grant will help fund the presentati­on of this summer’s world premiere of The Thirteenth Child by composer Poul Ruders and librettist­s Becky and David Starobin, the announceme­nt said.

Other Santa Fe grant recipients include:

$40,000 to the Santa Fe Art Institute to support the Truth & Reconcilia­tion Thematic Residency Program.

$35,000 to support the 47th Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival.

$25,000 to the Center for Contempora­ry Arts of Santa Fe to support NKAME, a solo exhibition and associated educationa­l programs dedicated to the work of Cuban visual artist Belkis Ayó.

$20,000 to Parallel Studios Inc. to support free and low-cost community engagement programs during the 2019 Currents New Media Festival, featuring works from artists, creative technologi­sts, programmer­s and multimedia performers dedicated to fostering appreciati­on for contempora­ry media.

$20,000 to the National Dance Institute of New Mexico to support a preprofess­ional dance program.

$20,000 to CENTER to support Review Santa Fe, a photograph­ic festival, conference and multivenue exhibition series.

$15,000 to the Santa Fe Desert Chorale to support a choral music performanc­e project.

$10,000 to support the Indigenous Solutions Healing Festival.

A half-dozen Albuquerqu­e projects also will receive a share of the $380,000 in grant money awarded to New Mexico arts programs.
