Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham tells oil execs: We’ll work with you, Oct. 8

-

Our governor is obeying her real constituents, her donors. We are need the Green New Deal, and we need a governor who supports it and one who will be beholden to the people not the industry that is destroying our planet.” Jim Clark

This does not sound like a government that is taking every measure to reduce our dependency on oil and gas in the time frame that science tells us we must. And correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought the Environment and Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Departments worked for the people of New Mexico. Not for the fossil fuel extractive industries. The administration’s words say we are in a climate emergency, but its actions loudly contradict those words.” John McAndrew

I am hugely shocked and disappointed by the Governor’s support of oil and gas. Yes, New Mexico needs money to improve education but the danger to our environment is a far greater consequence. Hasn’t the governor been listening to the dangers of oil and gas? Perhaps she could outlaw raising cattle in New Mexico if she wants to seem as if she’s concerned about the grave dangers of climate. Cows produce almost as much methane as oil and gas. Please, Governor, do something to prove you care about the air we breathe and the life of our planet.”

Gay Block

If New Mexico had a more heterogeneous economy, kicking out the oil and gas industry would be more feasible. As it stands, we all hold some responsibility to lessen the impact of the fossil fuel industry by moving towards more sustainable energy production through wind and solar. Not an apologist for the fossil fuel industry, but a citizen who is tired of seeing the perfect as the enemy of the good. As it stands, her state energy policy is light years beyond what we were previously subjected to — eight years of a reactionary, Republican government kept this from happening until now.”
