Do you think women should be included in the draft?

Gabby Deswood, Santa Fe Prep

“I don’t think that either gender should be … forced to participate in a war they don’t believe in. But if we are speaking just about women being drafted, my answer is no because I think if women were put into as much equal power as men, there would be more compromise and less chance of war.”

Jessa Bulman, Santa Fe High

“Personally, I don’t think there should be a draft, but if there are men being drafted, I believe that women should be drafted, too. It shows that females are just as strong as men and shouldn’t be looked at as weaker or lesser than.”

Mateo Sella, Santa Fe Prep

“I think women shouldn’t be included in the draft. They should definitely have the choice to be a part of the military, but I think our country is based on the idea that men go to war and there are a lot of things behind the scenes that women do that our country would crumble without.”

Revely Rothschild, Santa Fe Prep

“I think that morally speaking, they should be, but logistically speaking, it might not be the best idea. I think the answer would be clearer with further research into how it would affect the country.”

Alexandra Mendoza, Capital High

“I believe that women should be required to register for the draft because we must accept the responsibility that equality brings as American citizens.”

Sophie Biderman, New Mexico School for the Arts

“I believe that women should be included in the draft because equality in the workplace is something that we have been striving for, for a long time. If women are not included in the draft, this equality is not upheld.”
