Filmmaker Ben Loeterman’s new documentary Walter Winchell: The Power of Gossip chronicles the life and career of the syndicated columnist, radio news commentator and TV host who created the breakneck, gossip-based, politically charged culture that still thrives today. At his career peak, he had a combined print and radio audience of 50 million, until his alliance with Sen. Joseph McCarthy turned fans against him. Stanley Tucci, who won an Emmy in the title role of HBO’s 1998 TV-movie Winchell, lends his voice to the film.
