Santa Fe New Mexican

WILLIAM JOSEPH SCHMITT

-

William Joseph Schmitt “Bill” passed away peacefully on December 1, 2020. He was born to William and Katherine Schmitt (both deceased) on June 6, 1944 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Bill was a wonderful person, full of fun and love, he enjoyed fishing with his brother Dave and he loved going to the casinos! He was the type of person who was always willing to help anyone in need. Money had a way of “disappearing from his wallet”. Kind-hearted described him the best way especially towards all animals.

Bill was one of the hardest working men you could ever meet. He learned everything he knew from his dad, who was a building contractor. He could do it all, from plumbing to electrical. He could fix, or build anything and everything. Bill was part owner and manager of a mobile home park in Santa Fe.

After his first stroke, he had a hard time adjusting to the “new normal” of having others do everything for him, his mind was sharp to the very end. The fourth stroke was his last. After almost five years, he can finally be at peace, running in heaven.

Many thanks to all the doctors, nurse staff, and friends at the Santa Fe Care Center who cared for him. They were always there for him. Very special thanks to Nurse Debra Vigil.

Bill is survived by daughter Lisa VanOstrand (Bob), stepdaughter Erica Valdez and stepson Rob Moya, many grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. Surviving siblings are Rosemarie Ortiz (Ralph), Melba Rutledge (Bob deceased), Frank Schmitt, Dave Schmitt (Arlene).

Due to COVID, services will be private with burial to follow at Rosario Cemetery.
