This year marks the 99th annual Santa Fe Indian Market, with many changes. Exhibits have been reduced to 500 booths, with paid ticketing for visitors. Indian Market takes place on the Plaza and surrounding streets as usual and is open to artists from federally recognized U.S. tribes and Canadian First Nations. This is the only competitive art market in Santa Fe this week, and award-winning artwork is on display at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center on Friday, Aug. 20, for those who purchase tickets. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the Market Stage showcases live music and dance performances on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m., ticket holders can attend a gala reception, fashion show preview, and silent auction at the convention center.
The convention center also hosts Sunday’s VIP Indigenous Fashion Show, a pre-party and the following Indigenous Fashion Trunk Show, which are also ticketed events. Amber-Dawn Bear Robe (Siksika), who produces the fashion show, is also collaborating with Fashion Week Toronto and Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week to expand the international scope of the Indigenous designers being showcased. The trunk show is a new component, allowing visitors to purchase clothing directly from designers.
SWAIA, which actively helped artists create their own e-commerce websites during the pandemic, also offers a virtual component at this year’s market.
