Marcella E. Garcia Armijo of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Mesa, Arizona passed at her home in Mesa at age 87 on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, after a short illness surrounded by family.

She was born on June 2, 1934, in Conejos, Colorado, the oldest child of Fulgencia and Adolfo Garcia. She was married to Charles S. Armijo (Buddy) of Santa Fe for 58 years and was widowed for 10 years. She graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1952 and Santa Fe Community College in 2001.

She was blessed with 10 children and is survived by seven; Michelle, Charles Jr. (Chuck), Phillip (Ana), Lilly, David, Kenneth (Wendy) Armijo, and Leanne (Nathan) Rich. She was preceded in death by 3 children; Debbie, Robert, and Francine. She is also survived by her sister Bernadette Garcia (Victor) and brother, Dolfie Garcia of Albuquerqu­e; ten grandchild­ren Solomon “Sonny” Grijalva, Courtney Armijo, John and Patrick Branch, Christine and Caroline Armijo, Julia and Kenny Armijo, Lauren and Dylan Rich; and six greatgrand­children.

Marcella raised her 10 children, plus a couple of their friends, with love and an ear for listening. She worked for the Santa Fe Public Schools for over 30 years starting in 1971 as a substitute teacher and retired as a Librarian at Nava Elementary in 2005. Throughout her life, she advocated and donated time and resources for special needs children and other children in need.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmothe­r, and greatgrand­mother, and will be greatly missed by her family.

A Mass for Marcella will be held at 9 a.m on Wednesday, December 22, in Santa Fe at Santa Maria De La Paz Catholic Church followed by interment at Santa Fe’s National Cemetery with Buddy.
