Wild Cattle Destined To Be Destroyed By Aerial Helicopters

-

In one of New Mexico's most beautiful wild mountain areas in the Gila National Forest and wilderness starting years and years ago, maybe as far back as the Civil war, cattle have escaped from ranchers in this area and have become completely wild. They have reproduced and fit into the ecosystem and are existing here completely wild just like the elk, deer and other wild animals. They have paid their price for survival, fighting for their lives and the lives of their calves against the predatory wolves, cougar, bear, coyotes, etc. which has not been easy, but they have fought and survived to niche out their place in this wild environment. The predators and weather have kept the cattle numbers in check; survival of the fittest being the only rule. Myself, like most people, never realized until I began research that these wild cattle exist in almost every state in the union in those wild remote areas on mostly public lands. Their small numbers attest to the fact that they're determination to fight to remain wild and survive has not been easy, but they have done it. This mountain area of New Mexico is so extremely large that many other resident animals like the deer and elk may have never seen one of these cattle.

In an area of hundreds of thousands of acres a few select government employees involved in the management of the forest have determined that the cattle are destroying the area. They quickly quote from their in house experts that these cattle are destroying this vast national forest. However, the PhD biologist we consulted in this chuckled when we brought the question before him, saying "How can under 150 cattle damage anything in such a vast area? Their numbers have stayed pretty well stable after decades upon decades". The government has hired aerial gunners from helicopters to destroy all of these animals in this area. If successful, they will be leaving behind over 100,000 pounds of dead and rotting wasted meat, and would pollute ground and water sources in the area. They will inflict unmitigated pain and terror on these defenseless wild animals. We have both strong federal and state laws against cruelty to animals, yet they are being completely overlooked by both government and courts in an effort to enforce this aerial assault on these wild beautiful animals.
