Checking in with BETH BEHRS

-

After passing its 100th episode, and now heading toward its sixth year, “The Neighborhood” still feels like home for Beth Behrs.

The “2 Broke Girls” alum is enjoying another long CBS sitcom run as she plays wife, mom and school principal Gemma on the Monday show whose stars also include Cedric the Entertainer, Max Greenfield and Tichina Arnold. One major reason Behrs is happy the show will keep going next season is the kinship she feels with her “Neighborhood” co-stars and the crew members.

“No matter what’s happening in my personal life, I come here and I laugh all day long with these people,” she says. “I’ve never been around a tighter crew of 300 people, (with) the way everyone stands up for each other. When someone gets cancer or someone needs fertility treatments, this is a cast and crew that literally comes together and pools all of our money and fights for our own, and I’ve never been a part of something like that ... so that’s why we want to do 200 more (episodes). We just want to hang out all day.”

Just as she spent much of her 20s playing waitress turned cupcake seller Caroline on “2 Broke Girls,” Behrs notes that her time on “The Neighborhood” is spanning her 30s. “It’s like you are growing up with your character,” she reflects, “and it’s just kind of meta and cool to play out. I’m excited to see what we can do in the future because, like Cedric said, there’s just so many ways to go with this. These families (on the show) are growing in real time, in real-world society, like all of us are.”
