Living up to ‘Potential’: HGTV looks to the future with ‘Small Town Potential’
One of the most popular phrases heard by people of all backgrounds in their youth is how much potential they have when looking ahead to the future. As it so happens, one young couple has taken that idea and run with it, using the premise of “potential” to drive their home renovation show. Tune in for the premiere of “Small Town Potential” when it airs Wednesday, June 14, on HGTV. Davina Thomasula, a New York state real estate agent, works sideby-side with her partner, builder Kristin Leitheuser, to spruce up some homes in the Hudson Valley area of New York. Located less than two and a half hours north of the Big Apple, Hudson Valley is filled with lush forests, sprawling farmland and a quaint, small-town feel — a far different vibe than its closest big city. And as young couples everywhere struggle to save up the money for their first home, Thomasula and Leitheuser are here to offer some advice and a helping hand. According to HGTV, the pair “will help families who are ready to settle down in a cosy Upstate New York town find the perfect house to renovate and call home. In each episode, Davina will devise a timeless design plan complemented by the area’s natural surroundings that Kristin will bring to life with the help of her dad and building partner, Don.” A family affair in its own right, it makes perfect sense that Thomasula and Leitheuser should want to help other families make their quiet, small-town dreams come true. Whether they are renovating a house to welcome a new addition to the family, helping an older couple downsize after becoming empty nesters, or simply helping a young couple like them to find the perfect house to make their (hopefully) forever home, no project is too big for the “Small Town Potential” team. “The Hudson Valley is full of unique and beautiful towns nestled along the Hudson River,” Thomasula said in a promotional statement for HGTV. “So many people are moving here, because each town has a lot to offer and so much potential. I’m a real estate agent and designer who finds these upstate newcomers just the house they’re looking for.”
