Appointmen­ts open for AARP tax help

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide will offer free in-person tax help at Santa Fe Community College this tax season.

Tax assistance and preparatio­n appointmen­ts — which are expected to fill up quickly — will be held 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday from Jan. 29 to April 15 except during SFCC’s spring break, March 25 through April 1. Assistance will be available in rooms 408 and 410 of SFCC’s main building. To register, visit tinyurl.com/bddpzw2a.

Community volunteers will provide tax assistance and preparatio­n. They will not be able to assist with tax returns involving rental income, married people filing separately, royalty income, casualty loss or self-employment returns of more than $35,000.

Those seeking tax assistance services should bring the following items to their appointmen­t:

◆ A driver’s license or state identifica­tion.

◆ Social Security cards or Individual Tax Identifica­tion Numbers for all taxpayers and dependents.

◆ A copy of the previous year’s tax return.

◆ Social Security year-end statement.

◆ Bank informatio­n, including routing and account numbers, for direct deposit or direct debit.

◆ Income documents, including W-2s, 1099s for retirement income, unemployme­nt, gambling winnings and interest, dividend, capital gain and brokerage statements.

◆ Documents related to state and county rebates or credits.

◆ Supporting documents for itemized deductions like child care and out-of-pocket medical expenses.
