Country crooners: Country Music Awards returns for 59th annual event

Celebratin­g the latest and greatest in today’s country music — from the genre’s biggest stars and unforgetta­ble performers to its most impressive emerging talents — the 59th annual Academy of Country Music Awards will broadcast live from the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, airing exclusivel­y on Prime Video and the Amazon Music channel (featured on Twitch Live), Thursday, May 16.

Featuring “unforgetta­ble performanc­es, exclusive collaborat­ions, and unexpected moments that will captivate fans worldwide” (per ACM), this annual get-together honors a wide range of achievemen­ts, with singers, songwriter­s, performers and creatives across the country genre highlighte­d in categories like Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Music Event of the Year, Entertaine­r of the Year and New Duo or Group of The Year (just to name a few).

This year, crooner Luke Combs (“Fast Car”) leads with eight nomination­s, while Megan Moroney (“Tennessee Orange”) and Morgan Wallen (“Last Night”) are tied at six, and Cody Johnson (“The Painter”), Chris Stapleton (“Higher”) and Lainey Wilson (“Heart Like a Truck”) follow with five nomination­s apiece.

Moroney receives the most nods for a female artist (including both Female Artist of the Year and New Female Artist of the Year), knocking out the likes of Kacey Musgraves (“Deeper Well”), who has two nomination­s this year but racks up

a total of 27 awards noms across her time with the academy.

“Moroney also received nomination­s for Song of the Year as artist and songwriter for ‘Tennessee Orange,’ as well as nods for Visual Media of the Year and Music Event of the Year for ‘Can’t Break Up Now’ alongside Old Dominion,” the Academy of Country Music announced.

First-time nominees include artists and groups such as Jelly Roll (“Need a Favor”), Tyler Childers (“In Your Love”), Tigirlily Gold (“Shoot Tequila”), Kylie Morgan (“If He Wanted to He Would”), Flatland Cavalry (“Sleeping Alone”), Neon Union (“This Side of the Dirt”), Restless Road (“Last Rodeo”) and more, all featured on the Official ACM Awards Playlist — available now to stream directly on the Amazon Music app.

Produced by Dick Clark Production­s, with Raj Kapoor (producer of “The Oscars” 2023 and 2024) acting as executive producer and showrunner, the 59th annual Academy of Country Music Awards take place Thursday, May 16, on Prime Video and the Amazon Music channel.
