Set­ting off on a jour­ney stim­u­lates phys­i­cal and men­tal changes that most of us find im­mensely grat­i­fy­ing. Our senses are awak­ened, alert to de­tect new sights, sounds and smells. Our con­scious­ness sub­tly shifts into ex­plo­ration mode, with a mild boost of adren­a­line and an un­usu­ally height­ened at­ten­tion. Emo­tions may be am­pli­fied. It is our bod­ies’ way of gear­ing up to learn. For that rea­son, travel af­fords us an ex­cep­tional op­por­tu­nity to ex­plore not only un­fa­mil­iar peo­ple and places out­side our­selves, but also our in­ner selves — a ter­ri­tory we too of­ten leave un­ex­am­ined in our day-to-day rou­tines.

To take ad­van­tage of this valu­able op­por­tu­nity for per­sonal growth, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with Dr. Andrew Weil and The On­board Spa by Steiner, we have cre­ated a fleet-wide mindful liv­ing cur­ricu­lum of­fer­ing guests holis­tic spa and well­ness ex­pe­ri­ences in­te­grat­ing phys­i­cal, so­cial, en­vi­ron­men­tal and spir­i­tual well-be­ing.

Spa & Well­ness with Dr. Andrew Weil is the first-ever pro­gram of its kind at sea. To fa­cil­i­tate the pro­gram, each of our in­ti­mate, all-suite ships is adding a new mem­ber to the staff. The Mindful Liv­ing Coach is a cer­ti­fied yoga and med­i­ta­tion prac­ti­tioner ded­i­cated to in­spir­ing and ed­u­cat­ing guests through a series of ori­en­ta­tions and com­pli­men­tary classes through­out the voy­age. Guests who choose to par­tic­i­pate can have their cruise ex­pe­ri­ences fur­ther en­hanced by a holis­tic mind and body per­spec­tive.

Dr. Weil is a vi­sion­ary pi­o­neer in in­te­gra­tive medicine. With his guid­ance, this new cur­ricu­lum de­liv­ers an even greater de­gree of mind and body bal­ance, en­sur­ing that guests can break away, re­lax and re­ju­ve­nate while they travel, and of­fer­ing them an ex­pe­ri­ence they sim­ply can­not find any­where else in the in­dus­try.

The pro­gram is cur­rently avail­able on board Se­abourn En­core, and will be ex­panded through­out the en­tire Se­abourn fleet, in­clud­ing on Se­abourn Ova­tion in spring of 2018. When the pro­gram is in­tro­duced on each ship, Dr. Weil will sail, de­liv­er­ing a 60-minute lec­ture and host­ing smaller in­for­mal group dis­cus­sions with guests.

MINDFUL MED­I­TA­TION, YOGA AND SOUND BATH CLASSES

Cen­tral to the Spa & Well­ness with Dr. Andrew Weil pro­gram is the con­sis­tent prac­tice of med­i­ta­tion and yoga, in­tro­duced through a series of ses­sions. In Mindful Med­i­ta­tion ses­sions, the Mindful Liv­ing Coach will in­tro­duce positive af­fir­ma­tions and mantras for guests to re­flect on through­out the day. Daily restora­tive yoga classes will con­tinue to fo­cus on the mantra and positive af­fir­ma­tions. Var­i­ous yoga classes will of­fer guests the op­por­tu­nity to tai­lor their cur­ricu­lum to fo­cus on par­tic­u­lar phys­i­cal is­sues, such as yoga for heal­ing back and joint pain, headaches and body align­ment, as well as yoga aimed at en­hanc­ing cre­ativ­ity, men­tal fo­cus and hap­pi­ness. Classes change daily with a new daily theme fo­cused on mind, body and spirit over seven days.

MINDFUL LIV­ING SEMINARS

An en­rich­ing series of com­pli­men­tary Mindful Liv­ing Seminars au­thored by Dr. Andrew Weil are de­signed to ed­u­cate guests on world philoso­phies and prac­tices aligned with the pro­gram’s mis­sion. Each pre­sen­ta­tion aims to em­power guests with ideas and prac­tices for en­hanc­ing well-be­ing and in­creas­ing aware­ness of the con­nec­tions be­tween mind, body, en­vi­ron­ment and well­ness. Seminars are based upon Dr. Weil’s life­long re­search, and ex­plore the fields of the heal­ing arts.

The spe­cial­ized spa staff on board of­fers optional ad­di­tions to the cur­ricu­lum at ad­di­tional fees, in­clud­ing per­sonal well­ness and health as­sess­ments, multi-day use of the spa’s Ther­mal Suite, ther­a­peu­tic mas­sage or acupunc­ture treat­ments (by a tech­ni­cian cer­ti­fied in Tra­di­tional Chi­nese Medicine), Amethyst Crys­tal Sound Bath Heal­ing treat­ments and more. The launch of the Spa & Well­ness with Dr. Andrew Weil cur­ricu­lum deep­ens Se­abourn’s al­ready well­ness-fo­cused spa pro­gram of­fer­ing a wide spec­trum of body mas­sages, fa­cials, fit­ness and beauty treat­ments. A var­ied menu of ser­vices blends tra­di­tional ther­a­peu­tic prac­tices from around the world with the most up-to-date equip­ment and tech­niques adapted from the lat­est re­search. The facilities on board Se­abourn’s ships are large and di­verse, suit­able for guests wish­ing to main­tain a per­sonal fit­ness regime or dis­cover a new one. A well-equipped gym and Mo­tion Stu­dio, and a full-ser­vice sa­lon for men and women, com­ple­ment the spas. The fit­ness cen­ters are staffed by pro­fes­sional train­ers.
