Dear Bonnie: I have heard that all dogs go to heaven. Do you believe this to be true? I just lost my family beagle, and I am so distraught. I would like to believe that our beloved fur children know the way over the Rainbow Bridge, but I would like to know your thoughts — Gregg

Dear Gregg: I know that our beloved pets and animals are never left behind and are treated like the blessed souls that they are.

Let me tell you about a personal story that happened to me. It is a hard story to write about as it has such a tragic ending, but I feel this story will help to heal a lot of hearts by telling it.

My son was in the Army and needed to leave his dog with my husband and me while he went on special duty. His dog became the baby of the family and very much loved by both of us.

Zeus was a big dog but always gentle as he laid at my feet while I watched TV and slept beside my bed at night. Zeus and I became best buddies.

One morning as I got out of bed, I looked to see Zeus sitting up on the floor but with a different kind of expression on his face. I reached over to pat the top of his head, but his expression did not change. I went in to take my shower, thinking it was strange that Zeus did not follow me as I got up to go into the other room. I came out of the shower and continued to my room to get dressed when Zeus became violent and, with his teeth showing, began to lunge full-force toward me.

Instantly, the door between us snapped closed, and I did not remember ever pulling the doorknob (hence angels stepping in, as they can if they need to save a life).

I was stunned at the way he wanted to attack me. The commotion awoke my husband, and he was able to take control of Zeus. I had gone into another room and was crying when Zeus again bared his teeth. My husband got Zeus to the veterinarian and told them the story. My son’s sweet dog’s mind had snapped.

I could not make any sense of it. He was now a threat to others and could not be trusted with any humans. My husband returned home alone.

As I wen to sleep that evening, a man appeared to me from the spirit world. He was wearing a lab coat and sat on a desk. He assured me I had done nothing wrong, and unfortunately, this sometimes happens.

The next day, I was amazed to see Zeus in spirit, walking up and down the hallway. I knew he was in spirit but he seemed sad, walking with his head down. I could sense the remorse as I called to him, and he came close. I whispered, “I forgive you. It is OK.”

I started my day as usual until I received a call from my sister, who also has the gift of clairvoyance. She announced that Zeus was stuck between worlds because he felt he had done something wrong. She told me I needed to sit quietly and send him to the white light.

I had never done anything quite like this, but as I sat and connected to the spirit world, Jesus appeared. He quietly asked me to hand Zeus to him. I saw myself reaching down to pick up Zeus, who was a big dog, but once I went to raise him up, he turned into a puppy and was handed to Jesus.

As soon as he was safely in Jesus’ hands, they both were gone. Jesus had come to take Zeus into the light where he belonged.

No soul is ever left behind, and I found out firsthand. I know some of the things I am shown are meant to be shared with others as I never talk or teach without knowing these things are true.

I still miss Zeus and was so sad to tell my son the news of his loved pet. But I am happy to say I see him happy and healthy in heaven.

Yes, I believe in the Rainbow Bridge, but I am also glad to know that Jesus takes the time for all those pets that might lose their way of getting there.

I hope this story eases the minds of those who love their fur babies as their children.
