Free flu shots for veterans

-

As we head into flu season, doctors and medical experts agree it is absolutely essential that we get our flu shots. Not only will it help to protect each of us from the seasonal flu, but it will also reduce the burden on our health care system if we experience another surge of COVID-19.

That’s why I wanted to share some important news from the VA Boston Health Care System:

First, all Massachusetts VA health care facilities are offering no-cost flu shots to veterans during any upcoming scheduled appointment. To ensure everyone’s health and safety, the VA is encouraging veterans not to walk in without a scheduled appointment.

If you don’t have an upcoming appointment, the VA Boston Health Care System is launching a mobile drive-thru clinic that will be providing flu shots next month.

That includes a stop at the Lowell VFW at 190 Plain St. this Wednesday, Sept. 30 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. VA enrolled veterans can receive a standard flu shot simply by showing up to the drive thru clinic with a Veteran ID, VA ID card, Veteran drivers license, or Social Security number. VA enrolled veterans can also go to an in-network retail pharmacy or urgent care location and present a valid government-issued ID to receive a flu shot without incurring a copayment.

Visit VA.gov/find-locations. Finally, if you are a veteran in crisis call toll-free at 1-800273-8255 and press 1, text 838255, or chat online at VeteransCrisisLine.net.
