Man held on 6 counts in domestic assault
A city man is facing six charges in an alleged assault on his ex.
LEOMINSTER » After breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home, holding her against her will for several hours and assaulting her when she attempted to call police for help, a city man was arrested on several felony charges in August, according to police and court documents.
On Aug. 19, police were called to a residence on Mill Street for a report of Omarr J. Mitchell, 32, of Adams Street, violating a restraining order, police said.
When an officer arrived, Mitchell’s exgirlfriend, with whom he has a child in common, told the officer that she was asleep when Mitchell came into her bedroom and turned on the lights.
She told the officer Mitchell immediately took her cellphone and turned if off so that she could not call police.
Mitchell then went into the bedroom where their child was sleeping, picked him up from crib and began taking photos with the child, the victim told the officer .
he victim didn’t attempt to stop what was happening, fearing Mitchell would harm her or the child, she told the officer.
Eventually Mitchell put the child back in the crib, unharmed, and went back into the victim’s bedroom and changed into some clothes he had left behind before their relationship ended, the victim told the officer.
Mitchell then told the victim that she was to go to court that day and drop charges against him for a past domestic violence charge involving her, she told the officer.
Upset
The victim then told the officer Mitchell became upset and grabbed a dart from a dartboard in the victim’s bedroom and threw it at a television, damaging its screen.
Mitchell then went into the victim’s bathroom, found a razor and began cutting his inner forearm, telling her he was doing it because of her, the victim told the officer.
The victim then tried to get to her cellphone to call police and an altercation began.
She told police Mitchell grabbed her around her waist attempting to get the phone back, she told the officer.
Mitchell then went to the kitchen and took a fork from a drawer and attempted to stab himself in the neck before grabbing a knife, trying to hand it to her and asking her to kill
him, she told the officer. He also threatened to force police to kill him if she called them for help, she said.
Mitchell then picked up a fire extinguisher and began striking himself in the head with it, she told the officer.
At that point, the victim began screaming for help and Mitchell took her phone and threw it on the stove and fled on foot, the victim told the officer, adding that she was then able to call for help.
She told the officer the incident took place over a period of an hour or two.
Attempts were made to speak to Mitchell before the officer had a warrant issued for his arrest on charges of kidnapping, armed and assault burglary, witness intimidation, vandalizing property, domestic assault and battery, and violation of an abuse prevention order, according to court documents.
Restraining order
The victim has in place a restraining order against Mitchell to have no contact with her or their child through July 2021, according to court documents.
After being taken into custody, a dangerousness hearing was held and Mitchell was ordered held without bail for 120 days and is eligible for release on Dec. 17, according to court documents.
He will return to court on Oct. 26 for a probable cause hearing.
