Man facing third drunk-drive charge
A 53-year-old Leominster man was arrested for his third alleged offense
LEOMINSTER » After showing up twice at a residence and appearing intoxicated on Sunday, police spotted a city man driving on Carter Street and arrested him on suspicion of drunken driving, according to court and police documents.
The arresting officer reported that he visited a residence twice on Mechanic Street after its resident said Matthew C. Arsenault, 53, of 210 Fifth St., was an unwanted guest and that he had pulled into her driveway twice.
The Mechanic Street resident called police again when Arsenault showed up a third time and while she was standing in the driveway, he drove his car toward her and she believed he was going to hit her.
He left again and the officer went to Arsenault’s address but couldn’t locate him, the officer reported.
However, while there, the officer saw the Buick Arsenault was driving stop on Carter Street and watched him get out of his car.
The officer, now joined by another officer, approached Arsenault and immediately suspected he was intoxicated, the officer reported.
Arsenault submitted to a field sobriety test, which he failed saying he had a “feeling I had just had too much wine today,” and was arrested.
When officers searched his car, they found several empty nip bottles and a half-full bottle of wine, the officer reported.
As as a result of the incident, Arsenault was charged with OUI — third offense, assault with a dangerous weapon and an open container violation, according to court documents.
When being booked, Ar
senault wouldn’t blow into the Breathalyzer hard enough despite three attempts, which meant he had refused, the officer reported.
When arraigned Monday, Arsenault was released after posting a $1,500 cash bail and ordered to return to court on Oct. 29 for a pretrial hearing.

The reporting State Police trooper said Kyle Godsoe, 29, of 10 Cascade St., was under surveillance by the State Police Gang Unit, which was looking to arrest him for an outstanding warrant on trafficking fentanyl in Gardner and a shoplifting warrant out of Orange, when they saw him leave his home on a bicycle and begin riding toward the city on Westminster Street.
When Godsoe made it to River Street, members of the gang unit attempted to stop him. Godsoe tried to flee on the bike but was taken into custody a few moments later, the trooper reported.
Just prior to being taken into custody, the gang unit members saw Godsoe toss a red and blue backpack into a tree line, the trooper reported.
The backpack was found and inside was an American Tactical rifle with a 30round magazine, the trooper reported.
As a result, Godsoe was charged with improper storage of a large capacity firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm without an FID card, and possession of a large capacity firearm, according to court documents.
