Restaurant manager charged with larceny

-

FITCHBURG » A Leominster man was summonsed to district court on Monday on a single charge of larceny related to the theft of over $12,600 from the McDonalds on John Fitch Highway, according to police and court documents.

Police reported that on Aug. 4 the McDonalds’ area manager contacted police about the store manager stealing cash from daily deposits over five occasions in July.

The area manager told police that store manager Michael Brown, 41, of Carter Place, was responsible for the daily deposits and noticed Brown had been making the deposits later than usual and that “something had seemed wrong.”

The area manager decided to accompany Brown to the bank to make a deposit on Aug. 2 and told police that when Brown went inside the bank to make the deposit he was carrying the deposit envelopes and when he returned he no longer had them.

Two days later the area manager got a statement from the bank, the account was off by $12,618 and after inquiring about the balance learned it was not a clerical error, police said.

A check of the five prior deposits found that none of the cash on those occasions had been deposited, the area manager told police.

The area manager told police he made several attempts to call Brown, but was unsuccessful.

Police also made several attempts, including visiting his residence, but were also unsuccessful in connecting with him.

When he couldn’t be located, he was summonsed to court.

Brown was arraigned on Monday and released on personal recognizance. He was also ordered to return to court on Dec. 10 for a pretrial hearing, according to court documents.
