LEOMINSTER » Paul Redmond took over as City Treasurer/Collector effective Oct. 5.

Redmond brings years of experience with him. His first municipal job was in Shrewsbury as Assistant Treasurer/Collector, and he was Treasurer/ Collector in both Bellingham and Boxboro before coming to Leominster.

“For me, the goal was always to get the opportu

nity to work for a city,” Redmond said. “I had found out from a colleague of mine that this position was going to be available, due to retirement, and was very intrigued. After meeting with the financial team in Leominster, I knew that this would be a great opportunity for me and an excellent place to further my career.”

Redmond was officially offered the position at the beginning of September and was confirmed by City Council at its Sept. 28 meeting.

“It did not take long for the team of people who interviewed Paul to realize he would be a good fit,” said Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella. “He has the right experience and the right personality for our city.”

Redmond grew up in Charlton and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Worcester State University. He lives in West Boylston with his wife and their two daughters and their dog.

Redmond said he enjoys working with the staff in his office and in all of the city departments.

“Everyone at City Hall has been extremely nice and helpful as I continue to acclimate me to the new position,” he said. “The staff have been fantastic to work with, everyone is very approachable and willing to help out in any way they can. It truly is a team environment with

each employee or department doing whatever is needed to make the city run at a high level.”

Redmond said he is “very lucky” to have had former City Treasurer/Collector David Laplante working with him directly during the transition.

Laplante retired after serving 29 years at the city’s treasurer.

“It is very rare in the municipal world to have that type of handoff from one regime to another,” Redmond said.

Redmond said his main goal at this point is to get up to speed on how the city functions and “be able to help maintain the high level of performance the city has shown for years.”
