‘The three of us decided to try it and see how it goes. Since we cannot do an indoor gingerbread event, we thought let’s do it virtually.’

LEOMINSTER » Leominster Community Development and the Leominster Recreation Department have teamed up to host a Virtual Gingerbread Festival happening now through the end of the month.

Participants can use premade kits or make their own gingerbread and frosting, and post photos of their creations to the event page on Facebook.

“Use a secret family recipe, decorate with whatever edible treats you’d like… There is no right or wrong way to do this, so get creative and have some fun!” the event page details said.

Recreation Director Judith Sumner said that she had read in an email about recreation departments in other parts of the country holding virtual gingerbread events.

“I thought it would be a wonderful idea,” she said.

Recreation Department Administrative Assistant Lisa Comeau and city of Leominster Business Development and Event Coordinator Melissa Tasca agreed. “The three of us decided to try it and see how

it goes,” Sumner said. “Since we cannot do an indoor gingerbread event, we thought let’s do it virtually.” People are encouraged to decorate their gingerbread creations as they see fit; there is no right or wrong way to do it.

“Be creative, and post pictures,” Sumner said.

There were a limited number of free Wilton gingerbread house kits available for pick up at the Recreation Department; all 20 kits went quickly.
