LUNENBURG: Barbara G. (Cairns) Brown, 81, of Lunenburg, died Sunday, December 13, 2020 at her home, peacefully, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Brown was born in Winchester on October 19, 1939, the daughter of Stuart C. and Grace M. (Champlin) Cairns. She grew up in Lexington and was a graduate of Lexington High School, continuing her education at Gordon College in Wenham. She has resided in Lunenburg for over 50 years.

Mrs. Brown began a teaching career spanning over thirty years, starting in the Wakefield School System before relocating to Lunenburg where she held several positions within the Lunenburg School District, retiring in 2000.

She had been an active member of the Highland Baptist Church in Fitchburg and the First Baptist Church in West Townsend. She was dedicated to the Pioneer Girls program. Selflessly, Mrs. Brown was always quick to offer her time and help; caring for children in the church nursery, handing out food at the food pantry and helping others in times of need.

She leaves behind her husband of 57 years, Robert W. Brown; her son, Steven Brown of Montreal, Quebec, Canada; her daughter, Laurie Whitney of Little Falls, NY; a brother Richard Cairns of Essex; three grandchild­ren, Nicholas Whitney, Peter Whitney and Maxim Bronsard Brown; four great grandchild­ren, Evelyn and Benjamin Whitney, and Adelia and Bryn Whitney.
