Leominster man arrested for allegedly attacking child

-

LEOMINSTER » A city man was arrested in October for attacking a child known to him, according to police and court docu

ments.

On Oct. 25, a woman went to the police station to report that David Vicari, 41, of North Main Street, had assaulted her son, including trying to strangle him, police said.

The woman told police her son had told her Vicari had become angry with the boy, began calling him names and the boy became upset and left the room, but was followed by Vicari, police said.

When Vicari got to the room where the boy was, he allegedly threw a plate of food at a wall and then grabbed the boy by his neck, attempting to choke him, police said.

Police said Vicari then placed the boy in a chokehold and pushed the boy’s face into a mattress, making it difficult for the boy to breathe.

Vicari then allegedly ripped the boy’s shirt and began kicking and throwing items around the room, the boy’s mother told police.

The reporting officer said the boy had red markings and bruising around his neck. The boy was taken to the hospital for assessment and possible treatment, police said.

The officer then went to Vicari’s home and arrested him, the officer reported.

Vicari told the officer he never put his hands on the boy.

When arraigned on

Oct. 26, Vicari, who pleaded not guilty, was released on personal recognizance and ordered to stay away from the boy, according to court documents.

Vicari was in court Wednesday for a pretrial hearing and is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 18.
