FITCHBURG - Michael Kevin Murphy, 68 of Fitchburg, MA has passed away after a long battle with lung cancer. He spent his life serving and protecting his country, community, and family. Michael served in the United States Army’s First Cavalry Division and later joined the

Fitchburg Fire Department. Michael drove ladder three and served with pride and honor for the entirety of his 30 year career. Michael was most proud of his family and the numerous accomplish­ments they have made over the years. He was a longtime member of the South Fitchburg Social Club where many memories and lifelong friends were made. In his neighborho­od, Michael was infamous for dressing up as Grandma Maude on Halloween and handing out candy for over 30 years. Michael was predecease­d by his mother Mary (Gallagher) Murphy, father James Murphy, brother Kevin Murphy and sister Joyce (Murphy) Gionet. He is survived by wife Sandra (Ponusky) Murphy, son Michael A. Murphy, daughter Molly M. Murphy, grandson Cameron A. Murphy, brother Howard Murphy, brother in law Jim Gionet, nephews Brendon and Colin Murphy and nieces Jaime (Gionet) Leger, and

Lauren (Gionet) Nario. Michael was most known for his jokes, pranks, and laughs; he will be greatly missed and will forever be in our hearts.

MURPHY - Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 21, in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg from 5-7pm. Funeral services and burial will be held privately.
