93, Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother
LUNENBURG - Theresa “Terry” (White) Maki, 93 died peacefully Saturday January 16th in her home in Lunenburg.
She was predeceased by her husband Walter V. Maki who died in August 2013.
Terry was born March 6, 1927 in Fitchburg, a daughter of Alice and Jude White. She graduated from Fitchburg High School class of 1945 and the school of Nursing at Leominster Hospital. She was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corp and received her R.N. degree in 1947. She worked in Boston, Danvers and at Leominster Hospital as a surgical nurse until she started a family. Terry was also a member of the Professional Women’s Club, the St. Boniface Church Guild, and the Whalom Theatre Group.
As her family grew, she became a major contributor to her husband’s business – Maki Home Centers, working for years in the office. Many will remember the hilarious entertainment and skits at annual Maki employee’s Christmas Parties that she would organize that always got people involved.
She enjoyed golfing, playing the organ, singing in the St Boniface choir and coordinating huge Super Bowl and Halloween parties. She loved bargain shopping for hours, the penny slot machines at many casinos - Las Vegas, Brownsville, Monte Carlo, Monaco or playing cards for pennies, sometimes nickels with friends on a Friday or Saturday night.
She also traveled extensively, with her husband Walter around the world. They experienced many adventures, down the Amazon River in Brazil, walking the Great Wall of China, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Mexico, Russia,
Paris, England, Finland, Switzerland to Italy on the Orient Express and numerous visits to Monte Carlo – a favorite of hers. She loved New Brunswick, Canada where her family was from and completed her genealogy research there.
And let us not forget those fun Maki Contractors Incentive trips to many Caribbean Islands, cruises and to the Hawaiian Islands.
Terry and Walter lived in the New Smyrna Beach, FL area for 25 years as “snow-birds” and built two homes there where they enjoyed golfing and Terry’s weekly bingo nights until their return to Lunenburg full time in 2012.
She will be missed by her five children, Jean Maki Cuddy and her husband Rick of Lunenburg, Glenn and his wife Maria of Lunenburg, Alan and his wife Lisa of Lunenburg, Wayne and his wife Lori of Fitchburg and Bruce of Palm Springs, CA; her seven grandchildren, Christina, Andrew, Dana, Michael, Tanya, Dillin and Allie and her twelve great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Dylan, Ayden, Gabryel, Coleman, Savanah, Camerron, Caleb, Madeline, Zoe, Adissa, and Vincenzo.
