Veterans should be concerned with a Biden administration

- By John MacDonald John MacDonald is a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, Operation Desert Storm and a veterans’ advocate.

As caravans of illegal migrants rush toward the southern border of the United States in anticipation of a generous Biden administration, veterans wonder if they will be forgotten.

Thousands of Honduran migrants are not wasting any time and are looking to cash in, while they run past border guards and into the arms of Biden’s promised free benefits. The benefits they will receive are not earned, unlike veterans who have served their country. Migrants will receive free health care, housing and food benefits given away freely, simply by showing up.

The days of America and Americans First are quickly closing.

Veterans are right to worry. Where will veterans fall in the list of priorities with this new president? All Americans should be concerned, but especially veterans who despite their service and sacrifice too often fall through the cracks.

Veterans in need of the VA health care system saw improvements while President Trump was in office.

By no means is the VA health care system perfect, but the Trump administration made veterans’ issues a top priority, and enacted significant reforms to improve access and choice for those who served our country.

Now Biden seems to have promised free stuff to everyone but our vets, putting them after everything from free health care to illegal immigrant amnesty to student loan forgiveness.

Adding thousands of illegal migrants to taxpayer-funded programs will put even more pressure on a fragile economy. Also, questions need to be raised as to whether veterans will receive COVID-19 vaccines before illegal migrants who will be crashing through the border.

The American people will be far from a priority in a Biden administration and veterans have a right to wonder, what emphasis will be made on veterans with a President Biden?

As last fall’s election took place, questions regarding Biden’s policies were brushed aside as COVID-19 hysteria took center stage. Questions of veterans and veterans’ care were most always ignored.

The national press was more focused on reporting daily COVID death counts, rather than digging into Joe Biden’s policies, which now appear to be run by rehires from the Obama administration.

How quickly the American people forgot about the horrific Obama-and-Biden-era VA waitlists of death for veterans. Yes, remember the days during the Obama years while veterans died on waiting lists, desperately seeking health care at the VA?

Veterans and their families are justified in their concerns with a new President Biden, a Democrat-led US Senate and House coming into power. Veterans, their families, and all Americans need to make sure that those who gave their all and earned their benefits remain a priority. If we do not, then how can we expect that future generations will be willing to serve and protect our nation in uniform?
