FITCHBURG » While the Police Department continues to check on every convenience store in the city several times each night, two were robbed in the last four days alone, and the suspects fit the description of three others that have occurred since early November, police said.

“The description of the suspects are very similar,” Fitchburg Police Capt. Matthew LeMay said Thursday.

On Sunday, two men described as dark skinned, wearing all black, including their masks, and one brandishing a handgun, entered the Honey Land on Summer Street about 8 p.m. and demanded all the cash from the register, which they got, then fled,

LeMay said.

And then again on Wednesday, two men with the same description entered the ABS convenience store on Lunenburg Street about 11 p.m., with one flashing a handgun, demanding the cash from the register, which was handed over by a clerk before the two fled.

The first of the five robberies began in early November when two men with the same description entered Unified Petroleum on Kimball Street, flashed a handgun at the clerk and fled after taking the cash from the register.

In late November, the Expressway Market on Mechanic Street was robbed, again by two men with the same description, with one flashing a gun and fleeing after emptying the cash register.

The robberies continued in early January when two men, with similar descriptions, entered the A.L. Prime Energy convenience store on Mechanic Street, showed a handgun and left after being handed the money from the register.

In addition to those five robberies in the last two and half months, armed robberies with similarlydescribed suspects occurred at the Expressway Market in late August and another at the BP Gas Station on South Street in early September.

No one has been injured during the robberies, LeMay said.

He said Thursday that department detectives are actively working each of the robberies and he asked for the public’s help in trying to identify the suspects.
