Leominster woman charged in alleged slow cooker assault

-

LEOMINSTER » A city woman was arrested in January for allegedly attacking her boyfriend with a slow cooker filled with day-old mushroom stew and then violently resisting arrest, according to police and court documents.

Police were called on Jan. 19 to a disturbance reported between a man a woman on Merriam Avenue and when officers arrived they found the boyfriend of Kelly K. Kendall, 49, of Merriam Avenue, with a scratch mark above one of his eyes and covered with mushroom stew, the reporting officer said.

When speaking with the man, he told the officers that he and Kendall had been arguing when she began throwing household items around and screaming at him.

He said Kendall picked up a slow cooker and threw it at him, but he blocked it from hitting him in the face and then she picked it up and threw it again — this time it broke when it struck his face.

When the officers attempted to speak to Kendall about what happened, she at first refused to answer and screamed a profanity at the officers and then was generally yelling at all the officers, the officer stated in his report.

One of the officers then told her she was under arrest and she then began forcibly resisting and kicking at the officers, striking one, and pushing the others while struggling to keep from being handcuffed, the officer reported.

Once in custody, Kendall was charged with one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, one count of resisting arrest, and three counts of assault and battery on a police officer, according to court documents.

When arraigned on Jan. 21, Kendall, who pleaded not guilty, was released on personal recognizance and ordered to stay away from the victim.

She will return to court on April 26 for a bench trial, according to court documents.
