North Central Mass. United Way warns of scam email

Ignore email from no-reply@uvvncm.org

» United Way of North Central Massachusetts said several donors have received an email from no- reply@ uvvncm. org purportedly from United Way, inviting them to its annual Thank You Event.

In this email, recipients are asked to click on a link to register for the event, wherein, they were then asked to supply their Microsoft Office 365 email and password, according to a release from the organization.

This highly sophisticated phishing attempt includes specific information about the organization and its thank you activities, including the Spirit of North Central Awards, the information that is found in the public domain.

Immediate research and troubleshooting by the United Way of North Central Massachusetts IT team revealed that a new domain name was purchased and registered recently, “UVVNCM,” that the organization believes is for the specific purposes of committing fraud. The United Way domain is UWNCM.ORG and not UVVNCM.ORG.

Those who received this email and attempted to register by clicking on the registration link and entering a username and password, should change their password immediately.

The United Way of North Central Massachusetts is planning a “Thank You Event” but it will be virtual and is still in the planning stages.

The United Way of North Central Massachusetts takes seriously its responsibility to safeguard all donor information and will never ask patrons for the password to their email account.

While this seems to have originated from outside of the organization, for any questions, email Data Manager Randi Vincent, at randi@uwncm.org
