CTEi hosts open house
8th graders invited in-person Saturday
LTomINSTTR » The Center for Technical Education Innovation is holding its annual open house from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Last year’s open house was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The open house will be live and in person this year,” said CTEi Principal/Director Daniel Bachant. “All visitors will be required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing throughout their visit. We are hoping for a large crowd of eighth graders and their parents.”
All eighth grade students are welcome to check out the school and learn about all it has to offer. School staff have been reaching out to eighth grade students in the district with virtual presentations to introduce them to CTEi and invite them to the open house.
There are about 800 students at CTEi who are taught by 28 vocational teachers, 18 academic teachers and two tutors.
“What makes CTEi stand out are the teachers,” Bachant said. “We have a staff that truly cares about the well-being of each other and our students. We run this school like it’s a huge family. Our staff are fortunate to spend a lot of hours with their students and they get to know each of them on a first name basis. It’s all about relationships at CTEi. When you form great relationships with people, everything else seems to fall right into place. Our students do better because they are driven, and they know their teachers care about their wellbeing. These things together breed success.”
Although CTEi shares a campus with the high school on Granite Street, the innovative high school is unique in that it gives students hands-on learning experience through a variety of programs and internships.
CTEi offers 13 certificate vocational technical programs or career paths: Auto Collision Repair, Auto Mechanics Technology, Carpentry, Culinary Arts/ Commercial Baking, Drafting/CAD, Electrical, Honors Electronics, Graphic Communications, Health Occupations, HVAC/R (Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration), ISSN (Information Support Systems & Networking), Machine Technology and Plumbing.
“Our teachers are highly skilled in their vocation and provide the same level of vocational technical training you would find at any vocational technical high school in the state,” Bachant said.
Bachant said he and the other school staff are looking forward to the open house and showcasing what CTEi is all about.
“We are hoping to convey to those in attendance that CTEi is a fantastic vocational technical high school,” he said.
