37,376 more coronavirus vaccine doses given in state
More than 37,000 coronavirus vaccine doses were given during the most recent day of data, according to Massachusetts health officials who also reported 43 new virus deaths and almost 3,000 new cases over the last two days.
The state Department of Public Health’s daily vaccination report on Monday showed nearly 3.9 million total doses have been administered — 2,449,751 people who have received at least one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; 1,391,254 people who have received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna; and 100,550 people who have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
That’s an increase of 37,376 doses, which is down from prior days. The previous daily vaccinations were 72,047 shots; 97,690 shots; 95,852 shots; and 83,879 shots.
Overall, 1,491,804 people in Massachusetts have been fully vaccinated.
More than 4.6 million doses have been shipped to the Bay State, and more than 85% of total doses shipped to the state have been administered.
The two-day tally of 2,912 new virus cases follows a recent spike in infections across the state. Monday’s COVID-19 report included Sunday’s numbers because the state did not post the data on Easter.
The seven-day average of confirmed cases is now 1,629 cases, a jump from 1,322 cases a few weeks ago.
The state’s count of estimated active cases is now 35,167 cases — up from 25,397 two weeks ago.
The two-day count of 43 new virus deaths brings the state’s total recorded death toll to 17,325. The seven-day average of daily deaths is now 24, down from 77 daily deaths in late January.
Statewide hospitalizations have been dropping during the vaccine rollout but ticked up recently. Hospitalizations on Monday went down by eight patients, bringing the total to 707 patients.
The seven-day average of the number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 has declined from 2,347 patients at the start of January to an average of 701 patients now.
Of the state’s 17,325 total deaths from the virus, 9,005 deaths have been in long-term care facilities.
