Leominster Public Library to host autism support presentation
LEOMINSTER » The Public Library will welcome Licensed Individual Clinical Social Worker Dianne Crossley at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21 for the presentation: “Supports, Resources, and Social Opportunities for Adults with an Asperger Type Autism Profile.”
In this 90-minute information session, Crossley will cover the supports provided by the Horace Mann Educational Associates’ Autism Resource Central, as well as a general overview of the various community, state and federal resources that may be available for adults with autism.
Crossley is the adult autism specialist for HMEA’s Autism Resource Central. The focus of her position is to assist adults, 18 and older, with Asperger’s syndrome-type autism and their families to make needed connections to state agencies, public supports, resources in the community, and to other adults and families of adults with autism spectrum disorder.
The center provides a variety of supports and services that are bridges to independence.
Her qualifications include many years’ experience working with adults with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. She has provided individual, group and family counseling, case management, and clinical, behavioral and resource consultation to individuals, families, groups and programs.
HMEA’s Autism Resource Central, at 712 Plantation St., Worcester, is the Autism Family Support Center for Central Massachusetts.
The center provides individuals with autism and their families with resources, social activities, skill-based classes, educational workshops, support groups and connection to the greater community.
The organization seeks to empower those they serve to advocate for themselves and make informed decisions that will enrich their lives.
The talk will be held in the Community Room of the Leominster Public Library, 30 West St.
