From an evening of ghost stories to a Halloween scavenger hunt — and everything in between — children and adults will have plenty to choose from this week leading up to the big day — Halloween on Sunday.

Already spooking the city of Leominster is Leominster Frights, which officially kicked off on Oct. 18.

Attend ‘Willy the Wizard’s Halloween Party’

» The Drawbridge Puppet Theatre will present an all-original story “Willy the Wizard’s Halloween Party” at 11 a.m. Sunday at 1335 Massachuse­tts Ave.

Enjoy the art of string, band and shadow puppet theater. Appropriat­e for children ages 3 and up. Tickets are $7. To make reservatio­ns, call 978-582-1578.

Pumpkin decorating at the library

» Visit the Lunenburg Public Library anytime between 4 and 5 p.m. Thursday to make a Halloween black cat sock craft with your kids. This 15-minute project will be a quick and easy Halloween sewing craft (volunteers available to help) using an old black sock, buttons and ribbon (participan­ts will need to bring a black sock to cut, other supplies available).

On Friday, a Halloween Story Time will be held at Meadow Farm, located on Page Street. Join Debbie Laffond, Jackie and all her alpaca buddies for a fun Halloween adventure.

“We will share some spooky stories, sing songs and then we will do a Halloween scavenger hunt,” said Laffond. “We will have a craft for you to do as well. It’s going to be so much fun. So put on your Halloween costume, warm jacket and bring something to sit on and join us down on the farm.”

‘An Evening of Ghost Stories’ via Zoom

LUNENBURG » Author Robert Oakes will share some supernatur­al stories of Central and Western Massachuse­tts that are perfect for an October evening, via Zoom, at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Oakes, a writer, teacher, storytelle­r and singer/songwriter, will present “An Evening of Ghost Stories.”

Since 2010, he has led the ghost tours at Edith Wharton’s The Mount in Lenox and has represente­d the museum and its ghosts on Syfy’s “Ghost Hunters,” Jeff Belanger’s “New England Legends” series on PBS, and “The Apple Seed” show on BYU radio. In 2020, Robert’s debut book, Ghosts of the Berkshires, was published by Arcadia Publishing.

Library to host Halloween activities

TOWNSEND » The Townsend Public Library, 12 Dudley Road, will host a Halloween Boo! event from 11 a.m. to noon Friday Children, of all ages, are welcome to trick-or-treat outside of the library and around the senior center.

“We are thrilled to be hosting our annual trick-or-treat event at the library,” said Molly Benevides, children’s librarian. “It’s one of our favorite events and it’s always fun to see the kid’s adorable and creative costumes, and it’s just a fun festive vibe. We can’t wait to see you all.”

CLINTON » The Bigelow Free Public Library will celebrate Halloween-themed events beginning with a Virtual Fright Night on Friday at 7 p.m. with the Zoom presentati­on of “Chasing Chandler: Is Tewksbury Library Haunted?”

“Several current and former employees of Tewksbury Public Library believe it is haunted,”

said Library Director Marie Letarte. “Find out what the investigat­ive groups have found.”

On Saturday at 10 a.m., Virtual Scary Saturdays presents “Loch Ness Monster.” Join New England Emmy Award-winning folklorist John Horrigan and explore the legend of the Loch Ness Monster, this event will be held via Zoom.

Brick or Treat will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the library, 54 Walnut St. Join the library staff and build your Spooktacul­ar Lego creation or a fall brick project; door prizes awarded; ages 6-12.

Halloween fun at Hollis Hills Farm

Trick-or-Treat on Main

FITCHBURG » The community is invited to enjoy a fall festival on Main Street from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Guests will enjoy plenty of candy for trick-or-treating, craft and artist vendors, live music by The Pacific Marimba Band, local resources informatio­n, and fun family activities with over 50 participan­ts; costumes are encouraged.

“We are very excited about this popular community event, particular­ly after a very challengin­g year with the COVID-19 pandemic when we simply couldn’t do events,” said Joe Ferguson, director of ReImagine North of Main. “We re-launched our InTown events this past August with First Thursdays, and they were well-received and attended. ... I think people are embracing the opportunit­y to be outdoors with the community, even more so than before the pandemic hit. And we are glad to provide this opportunit­y for folks to be together on Main Street and at Activate Mill Street for this fun, fall event.”
