Hanover and LMA spring back to life

- Nancye Tuttle Stages

It’s a big week in Worcester and Lowell as the Hanover Theatre and Lowell Memorial Auditorium return to pre-pandemic life with shows for all ages and tastes.

The Hanover is especially busy starting tonight with “Moth Mainstage” and continuing through next weekend with the Broadway touring company of “The Band’s Visit.”

Storytelling par excellence takes center stage tonight with the Peabody Award-winning “Moth Mainstage” at 7:30 p.m. Recommended for ages 13 and up, it is a community where entertainment and enlightenment merge in simple, old-fashioned storytelling. True stories are told, live and without notes, and honor the diversity and commonality of the human experience.

On Friday, at 8 p.m., kick off the winter ski season with Warren Miller’s annual film “Winter

Starts Now.” You’ll take a road trip through the Rockies, visit New England, meet rising star skiers and follow a disabled ski descent of Denali.

On Sunday, get the kids into a little pre-holiday spirit at a special event dubbed “Cookies and Tea with Clara from The Nutcracker.” Three meet-andgreet parties are planned and include dancing, decorating cookies to take home and a pretend tea party. Times are 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m.

“The Band’s Visit” comes to the Hanover for six performances Nov. 1114. Winner of 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the show tells the joyously offbeat story of a lost band of musicians who bring the town, where they find themselves, to life in unexpected ways.

For tickets to these and other events, plus the Hanover’s COVID guidelines, visit www.thehanovertheatre.org.

Meanwhile, it’s oldie but goodie time in Lowell at the LMA as The Temptations and The Four Tops take center stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The show, originally scheduled for November 2020, will feature the venerable groups performing such golden oldies as “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” “My Girl” and “Baby, I Need Your Loving.” Visit www.lowellauditorium.com for tickets and COVID guidelines.
