FITCHBURG » The Department of Public Works advises residents of the following work that will be done, weather permitting, during the week of May 23, this week.

Road construction

Monday – Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Expect road closures, delays and detours. P. J. Albert Inc. will continue work on the Main Street and Boulder Drive two-way conversion. They will install new curbing and sidewalk along Main Street and Boulder Drive.

Traffic signal relocation will continue along Main Street, Boulder Drive and Putman Street.

P. J. Albert will continue with road reconfiguration and installing new traffic islands in the area around City Hall and the Lower Common area at Central Street and Boulder Drive. Businesses along Main Street and Boulder Drive are open during construction.

Parking is available at the Mill Street and Putnam Street parking garages. Main Street is now singlelane travel at the approach to the Common/ Lower Common area.

Unitil will conduct natural gas pipeline replacement projects in the areas of Mechanic Street, Whittemore Street, Buttrick Avenue, Stockwell Avenue, and Arcadia Avenue.

The contractors Neuco, S. Fors, Feeney Brothers and O.G. Croteau, plan to work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Residents will be given notice on any planned service interruptions associated with the gas work.

The work is scheduled to be completed this summer. All businesses on Mechanic Street will remain open during construction.

Combination sanitary sewer/storm drain separation project

Monday – Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Expect detours, lane shifts, road closures and traffic delays.

• Ongoing combination sanitary sewer/storm drain separation project: Water Street at northerly Market Basket entrance South Street between Laurel Street and Nashua Street

• Anticipated detour/ temporary closure on South Street to start tentatively on May 25. This will be located between Laurel Street and Nashua Street on South Street.

Minor traffic impacts

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Minor traffic impacts:

• Pothole repairs in all wards.

• Spot sweeping around the city.

• Repair water gate boxes at various locations throughout the city.

•Catch basin repair will be performed on Elizabeth Street.

• Sidewalk repairs will be performed on Day Street.

Hydrants
