Local teams learn postseason fate

Several programs to compete in MIAA tourneys

With the MIAA’S release of baseball, softball and tennis pairings on Wednesday, several local programs can begin dreaming of postseason glory.

The brackets will be made official this morning, after being combed over and re-examined. As of Wednesday afternoon, many pairings still had dates and times to be announced.

Boys and girls lacrosse tournament seedings are expected Friday.

In baseball, both Leominster and Nashoba Regional earned preliminar­y round byes in the Div. 2 tournament and will kick off play in the round of 32. The Blue Devils (11-7) earned the ninth seed and will host No. 24 Woburn at Doyle Field at a time and date to be determined.

The Wolves (11-9) are the 23rd seed and will visit No. 10 Reading (16- 4) with further details yet to be announced.

Oakmont Regional (15-3) drew the 13th seed in the Div. 3 pairings, hosting No. 20 Swampscott (13-7) in the round of 32 at a time and date to be determined.

In Div. 4, No. 26 Lunenburg (8-10) will travel to No. 7 Seekonk (9-11) at a time and date to be determined for a round of 32 contest. And in Div. 5, ninth-seeded Ayer Shirley (13- 6) will face the winner of a preliminar­y contest between No. 24 Sturgis Charter East (8- 8) and No. 41 South Shore Voke (10- 8) in the round of 32 at a time and date to be determined.

Softball

The Div. 2 tournament will see No. 19 Leominster (7-11) visit No. 14 Mansfield (9-11) in a round of 32 contest with the time and date still to come. Nashoba (13-7) drew the 22nd seed and will play at No. 11 Bedford (14- 4) in the round of 32 with details coming soon.

In Div. 3, No. 21 Oakmont (11-7) plays at 12 Fairhaven (13-7) in the round of 32, date and time to be announced, while No. 28 Monty Tech (15-5) hosts 37th-seeded Dennis-yarmouth (11-9) in a preliminar­y round game, the winner advancing to face

No. 5 Middleboro in the round of 32.

In Div. 4 action, 24th- seeded Lunenburg (8-10) will play at No. 9 tyngsboro (13-7) in the round of 32, date and time still to come.

Tennis

A trio of local tennis teams will look to make runs in the Div. 2 tournament, with both the boys and girls from Nashoba qualifying, as did the Leominster High girls.

Nashoba’s boys (14- 4) earned the 21st seed and will play at No. 12 Marblehead (12- 6) in the round of 32 on June 6 at 4 p.m. The girls are

No. 24 in Div. 2 and will face No. 9 Plymouth North in the round of 32 on June 5 at 4 p.m.

Leominster (12- 4) was tabbed the 36th seed and will take to the courts at No. 29 Danvers (9- 6) in a preliminar­y round matchup Friday at 4 p.m.

Volleyball

The MIAA released its boys volleyball pairings on Tuesday, with Leominster and Fitchburg each earning postseason berths.

Leominster, seeded 30th, will host No. 35 Southwick Regional in a Div. 2 preliminar­y round game Friday at 5 p.m.

No. 32 Fitchburg hosts No. 33 Pioneer Charter in a preliminar­y contest Thursday afternoon at 5 p.m.
