Where have all the flowers gone?

Where have all the flowers gone? Gone to graveyards, everyone. When will we ever learn?

Once again there has been a mass shooting at a school in the United States. Mass shootings are everywhere in this country at supermarkets, movie theaters, music concerts and churches.

What is wrong with us? Unfortunately, the United States are not united. We are so bent on our freedoms that we cannot agree on a mask mandate during a pandemic, much less gun control. Remember guns don’t kill people!

There is no silver bullet to prevent these massacres but continuing to do nothing is not an option! We prefer to be free and die than to have background checks, or ban assault weapons again, or limit gun magazine capacities. We suggest that every school become an armed fortress, to have bulletproof glass, metal detectors and armed guards. We suggest that the answer is everyone should be carrying guns. Yes, and we should each have our own nuclear weapons!

Gold State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr hit the bullseye in his comments on the shootings. He said “50 senators in Washington are going to hold us hostage. Do you realize 90% of Americans, regardless of political party, want universal background checks? We’re being held hostage by 50 senators in Washington who refuse to even put it to a vote, despite what we, the American people, want. They won’t vote on it, because they want to hold onto their own power. It’s pathetic. I’ve had enough.”

This is what is wrong with us.

We need to get away from the attitude of the congressmen and senators who are more interested in maintaining their own power than actually coming together to work on this problem and the many other issues that face this country. As another coach would say “Do your job!”

Where have all the flowers gone? Sadly gone to graveyards, everyone. Will we ever learn?
