FITCHBURG » Sizer School is set to host this year’s Graduation Ceremony on Friday.

As the end of high school draws near for students, the school held an awards ceremony and picnic on Thursday, May 26. Teachers and staff gave out specialized awards to students based on effort, personality and academic achievements.

Then on Friday, May 27, the school held its annual Senior Celebration Community Meeting. The whole school, including students and staff, watched as the Class of 2022 were awarded honors and scholarships.

“We are extremely proud of the Sizer School graduating class of 2022. They have faced unprecedented challenges for the last two years, and their strength, kindness, and courage have really come shining forward. We are very excited for graduation and to see what our seniors do next,” said Sizer School Executive Director Michelle Paranto.

Parent, Teacher and Student Organization scholarships were given to Lily Noon of Townsend, Dylan Mercier of Gardner and Piper Daley of Fitchburg.

The “Not Your Average Scholarship” was awarded to Roman Roy of Fitchburg, Mackenzie Pupecki

of Leominster, Piper Daley and Megan Derienze of Leominster. Health Sciences Awards were given to Odette Amoakohene of Fitchburg, Nevaeh Yang of Fitchburg and Lily Noon.

The John K. Grady Craftsperson Scholarship was given to Roman Roy. Earlier this year, Roy was also honored as a Rotary Student of the Month. The Sizer Boost Scholarship was awarded to Piper Daley. Senior Odette Amoakohene of Fitchburg and 8th Grade student Benjamin Gonzalez, also of Fitchburg, were given the Gallo Book Award.

Sizer’s highest honor, the Think Care Act Medal, was awarded to Keisha Pabon Gerena of Fitchburg. She was presented the medal by last year’s winner Libbie Susman of Winchendon, Class of 2021.

After the awards and

honors were given out, Sizer held its annual Cording Ceremony. The Cording Ceremony has juniors present each senior with the braided cords that they will wear on graduation day. This ceremony is symbolic as it is when the senior class acknowledges that the juniors are the new leaders of the school in front of the entire community. .

“It is so exciting to have this rich tradition back after a long hiatus,” said Alyson Cordio, Sizer’s performing arts teacher and community meeting director. “It honors the hard work our seniors have accomplished, sets the bar for the incoming seniors, and reminds us of our commitment to our community.”
