Sale a flowering success

- By Joanna Reagan

PEPPERELL » The Pepperell Garden Club held its annual plant sale May 21 at the Albert Harris Center and the event proved to be a flowering success.

Plant lovers were very patient as they waited for the 8 a. m. start of the sale, with members putting the finishing touches on the setup. Their excitement at seeing the extensive choices of perennials, annuals, vegetables, hanging plants, herbs, shrubs and trees made it all worth the while. At least 30 members participated in the extensive preparations.

Many members dug from their own gardens to donate a variety of healthy native plants and perennials. Information was available about the invasive Jumping Worms.

Proceeds from the plant sale, the only club fundraiser, directly benefit several Pepperell beautification projects such as the rotary garden at Routes 111 and 113, Gardens at the Senior Center, Main Street and Rail Road Square planters, and the planting of trees, plants and shrubs at Town Hall.

The Garden Club offers lectures that are open to the public and student scholarships. Several members are volunteering their time to maintain gardens at the VFW memorial and highway department.

The Pepperell Garden Club is open to new members, students and guests from all communities. The club meets the second Wednesday of the month from September to May at the Albert Harris Center. Informative programs and hands- on activities are held each month along with delicious refreshment.
