- By Cheryl A. Cuddahy Correspondent

LEOMINSTER » Five free workshops, discussing the topic Literacy Happens at Home will be held, with the first one at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, in the Leominster Public Library’s Community Room, 30 West St.

These workshops, geared toward families with children of preschool to pre-k age, will teach participants how to support their child’s literacy development.

The goals are to help people learn about fun ways to engage children in literacy play; find out ways to turn everyday experiences into learning opportunities; build literacy skills that will help their children become good readers, writers, speakers and listeners; and enjoy some high-quality time with their children.

This session introduces the format of the workshop series. Participants will see some great videos, talk with other parents, and participate in a series of literacy activities that they can easily do at home.

Remaining sessions include Literacy Happens in the Living Room at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12; Literacy

Happens in the Kitchen at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19; Literacy Happens in the Bedroom and Bathroom at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26; and Literacy Happens Out and About at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2.

Participants may attend one or all five sessions. Childcare is provided.
