Westminster’s Sam Rameau will look to pick up a little spending money for the Fourth of July weekend when he takes part in Seekonk Speedway’s Open Wheel Wednesday.

Rameau will compete with the Monaco Modified Tri-track Series for the third time this season, according to a release from Souza Media. The race at Seekonk Speedway will be 100 laps, with $10,000 to win.

Off last weekend, Rameau is coming off some strong racing earlier in the month. Rameau finished third at Claremont Motorsports Park in the Whitcomb 5 Series event and also finished fourth in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Duel at the Dog 200 on June 19, according to Souza Media.

Winless at Seekonk, Rameau is hoping to change that.

“Seekonk is one of the toughest tracks around and there is no doubt about it,” Rameau said in the release. “We would love to turn things around there and get to the front of the field, especially in such a big race like Open Wheel Wednesday, with $10,000 on the line. We’re looking forward to giving it our best shot and coming out with a strong run for all of our team.”

Seekonk’s schedule on Wednesday includes practice from 3:45- 4:30 p.m., qualifying heats at 6 p.m. and the green flag for the 100-lap race around 8:30 p.m.

Fast start for Phillies

Don’t look now, but the Lunenburg Phillies are off to a red-hot start to the summer.

Entering the week’s action undefeated, the Phillies are 12- 0 and sit in second place in the CNEBA standings, a point behind the Shrewsbury Dirt Dogs (12-3-1).

The week’s slate is a full one for Lunenburg, which was scheduled to play the Clinton 76ers Monday evening at Clinton High School and host the 76ers at Marshall Park on Tuesday night. The Phillies hit the road Wednesday to square off with the Dirt

Dogs at Shrewsbury High School before hosting Clinton Friday evening to wrap up action through the holiday weekend.

As has become the norm in Lunenburg, it’s a mixture of veteran talent and newcomers getting it done for the Phillies early on. Leominster High grad Tyler Smith is leading the team in average, batting .417 in 12 games with a team- leading seven RBI, while Shea Zina is hitting .409 in his first CNEBA season. Danny Garcia (.400), Jonathan Belliard (. 382) and Steve Lajoie (. 379) are also contributing at the plate

On the hill, former Oakmont Regional standout Brady Aubuchon is a perfect 4- 0 with a 0.68 ERA, having pitched in five contests.

Josh Desai (0.82 ERA) and CJ Zemetres (0.54 ERA) are each 2- 0.
