VFW to sponsor Illustrating America Art Contest
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post No. 6538 is set to sponsor the Illustrating America Art Contest in conjunction with the VFW Auxiliary Department of Massachusetts and the VFW of the United States Auxiliary, they announced in a press release
Prizes of $ 30, $20 and $ 10 will be available to students in third- grade through fifth- grade that attend a public, private or parochial school or are enrolled in a home study program. The winning entry will later be entered into the state- level competition, where prizes of $100, $50 will be awarded.
Similarly, thewinning entry will be entered into the national competition, where gift cards of $100, $50 and $25 will be awarded.
While there is no specific theme for the competition, students are encouraged to show judges their own view of the country. Entries must be two- dimensional and presented on canvas or paper using watercolor, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen, ink, oil, glitter, marker, or other media.
Canvas entries should be submitted on a stretcher frame or canvas board, while other entries must be matted in white and reinforced with heavy paper and must have been completed during the 20222023 school year. Entries should be no smaller than eight-by-10 inches but no larger than 18-by-24 inches, not including the mat.
Coloring sheets, digital art, and photography will not be accepted.
With their art, students must also submit a completed official contest application, which can be obtained by local teachers or from Post 6538 President Betty Mae Tenney. While U. S. citizenship is not required, students must be lawful, permanent residents or have applied for permanent residence in order to enter.
