Lunenburg Water District partners with engineering firm
Partnership aims to ‘mitigate PFAS contamination’
LUNENBURG >> In an ongoing commitment to providing high- quality drinking water to the community, the Lunenburg Water District recently announced the decision to partner with Tighe & Bond, a leader in water engineering services.
This collaboration aims to develop a comprehensive Perand Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) Water Master Plan to address and mitigate PFAS contamination, ensuring the long-term safety and sustainability of the town’s water supply.
“The safety and health of our community are of utmost importance,” said Fran Mcnamara, the Superintendent of the Lunenburg Water District. “Through this partnership with Tighe & Bond, we are taking a significant step forward in removing PFAS from the water supply and protecting public health. Our goal is not just to meet but to exceed state and federal water quality standards, ensuring our community has access to safe drinking water now and in the future.”
PFAS are a group of man-made chemicals that have been used in industry and consumer products worldwide since the 1940s. PFAS are persistent in the environment and in the human body, meaning they do not break down and can accumulate over time. There is evidence that exposure to PFAS can lead to adverse health outcomes in humans.
The Water District seeks to demonstrate a proactive approach to confronting the challenge of PFAS contamination with the decision to partner with Tighe & Bond, who brings a track record of success in environmental engineering, water treatment technologies, and regulatory compliance strategies.
The PFAS Water Master Plan will encompass a thorough assessment of the current state of PFAS presence in the district’s water supply and the evaluation of treatment options to remove PFAS from the water supply. Ad
ditionally, the plan will outline a long-term strategy for monitoring, reporting, and engaging the community, with the assistance of Capital Strategic Solutions, to ensure transparency and public trust.
The development of the PFAS Water Master Plan is a critical element in the Lunenburg Water District’s continual efforts to safeguard public health and preserve the quality of life for the residents of Lunenburg.
The District is committed to keeping the public informed and engaged throughout the process and will provide updates as the project progresses.
