Leominster kicks off title defense
New England Patriots girls flag football league starts Year 2
The title defense has begun in impressive performance.
Leominster High opened play in the New England Patriots girls flag football league with strong showing, going 2- 0 in Friday night’s opening contests at Ayer- Shirley’s Harold G. Norton Athletic Complex. Leominster took care of a business in a 33- 0 drubbing of Veritas Preparatory Charter School before closing the evening with a 33- 0 blanking of Greater Lowell Tech.
Equally impressive for the Blue Devils was their second team going 2- 0 on the night. Akin to a JV team playing at the varsity level, Leominster’s second team of up-and- coming players topped Wachusett, 237, and the Collegiate Charter School of Lowell, 21- 0.
Fitchburg High had no problem starting the season unbeaten, storming past Springfield International Charter School, 33- 0, and besting Groton-dunstable 31-7, while host Week 1 host Ayer- Shirley also won both of its games. The Panthers topped G-D, 25-12, before sneaking past Springfield International, 6- 0.
The teams return to action Thursday, heading to Fitchburg for a slate of contests at Crocker Field. Games begin at 6 p.m.
