Bradley Wechter
Bradley Joseph Wechter, age 33, formerly of Shelby and a Chicago resident for the past ten years, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at his home.
Brad was born July 24, 1987 in Toledo, Ohio and is the son of Joseph T. and Lynn M. (Murphy) Wechter. He was a 2006 graduate of Shelby High School and attended Miami University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business. He also had recently attended the University of Notre Dame where he was working on an MBA. After graduation from Miami, Brad followed his dream of living in the city and moved to Chicago to work and live. While in Chicago, Brad had worked for multiple start-up companies in the tech industry as a technical writer. His most recent job was as a Senior Technical Writer for Morningstar Investment Research Company. He had also been a writer for the Notre Dame website, “One Foot Down.”
Brad had a deep love for music- listening to it, playing guitar, and enjoying records. He loved to travel, having been to Europe several times, and thoroughly enjoyed sports, especially the Cleveland teams and The Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Survivors include Brad’s parents: Joe and Lynn Wechter of Shelby; his sister: Sheila (Brad) Fletcher of Ontario; his nephews and niece, whom he adored and they him: Brady, Kate, and Luke; his paternal grandmother: Patricia A. (Kaple) Wechter of New Washington; aunt and uncles: John and Dawn Wechter, Angel and John Schroeder, and Jim and Margie
Wechter all of Shelby, Linda and Bill Crockett of Catawba Island, Michael and Debi Murphy of Bucyrus, and Mark and Terri Murphy of FL; his godmother: Jackie Vredenburgh; and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Lloyd and Pearl Murphy; paternal grandfather: Sylvester “Sonny” Wechter; and a cousin: Mark Schroeder.
A private funeral mass was held with the family at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Shelby. Burial is in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family strongly requests for memorial contributions to be made in Brad’s name to The Shelby Foundation, 142 North Gamble Street, Shelby, Ohio 44875.
